Any indoor combustion-based fireplace (wood, gas, pellet, ethanol).
Requirements

No combustion fireplace permitted indoors at Platinum tier.
- 02.
Electric fireplaces (decorative or heating) are permitted and recommended as a substitute.
- 03.
Outdoor combustion fireplaces / fire pits are not subject to this requirement.
Documentation
Evidence the inspector / Institute will need.

Confirmation statement (signed by Owner/Project Team) that no combustion fireplace exists indoors.
- 02.
If an existing combustion fireplace was decommissioned: photos showing the unit removed or permanently sealed.
Guidance
Why the Platinum ban
Even sealed/vented combustion fireplaces (a) create combustion-safety risk, (b) require makeup air that defeats some of the envelope tightening, and (c) emit PM2.5 outdoors that affects the neighborhood. Electric fireplaces eliminate all three concerns while providing equivalent ambience.
